Imagine hanging up on Clint Eastwood. Frank Frazetta’s wife, Ellie, did — thinking it was a prank. But Clint called back — and sure enough, it 𝒘𝒂𝒔 Clint Eastwood. Frank apologized, and Clint laughed. Clint told Frank about the movie he was doing — 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒂𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒕 — and how he had seen Frank’s work and wanted to come out and meet him. When they met, Clint had very specific ideas for what he should look like on the poster. He even made comparisons to one painting in particular — he pointed to his favorite and said, “𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩.” The painting? 𝑫𝒂𝒓𝒌 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒅𝒐𝒎. The rest is history.
