Can you spot the birthmark on Zeke’s tongue
Can you spot the birthmark on Zeke’s tongue?! 🥹🥰 A giraffe’s tongue is between 18 and 20 inches long and is prehensile, which allows it to grasp and pull leaves into its mouth. Feed giraffes like Zeke daily from 9:30am-11:30am and 12:30pm-2:30pm. @cfacincynky

Salamander Checkup: Priscilla and Steve Get a Clean Bill of Health
Salamander Checkup: Priscilla and Steve Get a Clean Bill of Health! 🦎 🩺 Happy Amphibian Week! This week celebrates and brings attention to the important role that animals such as frogs, toads, newts and salamanders play in our ecosystem and food chain! Amphibians consume huge numbers of mosquitoes and other disease-bearing insects.  It was time for the annual checkup of the Zoo’s two Japanese Giant Salamanders Priscilla and Steve! During their exams, the vet team performed exams, radiographs, ultrasounds, and collected blood samples and skin swabs. We’re happy to report that both animals appeared to be in good health overall. Sound on
Sound on! Otterly adorable news! Overnight, Munti, the Asian small-clawed otter, gave birth to a litter of pups—earlier than expected! Munti is a first-time mom and with that comes some risk. We are currently in a critical three-day window for the pups, but hearing hearty squeaks that sound healthy is a great sign! Munti, dad Flounder, and the pups are now tucked into their nest, out of view. Because of this, the team hasn’t yet been able to confirm the number of pups. The otter family will remain off habitat for around the next eight weeks while they bond and care for their pups behind the scenes. During this time, the care team is closely monitoring their health and remains cautiously optimistic. Stay tuned on the Zoo’s social media pages for pupdates.

Munti is eating for 2, 3, 4, or more! Munti, the Asian small-clawed otter, was recently confirmed to be expecting her first litter. We expect her to give birth in about a month. These otters are the smallest otter species in the world, and their babies are about the size of a chicken nugget when born! #animals #cincinnatizoo #cuteanimals #babyanimal #otters

Snack time with sweet Rico
Snack time with sweet Rico! The Brazilian porcupine is an expert climber. Large curved claws, bare soles and a prehensile tail help the large rodent grip branches as it moves through the trees. The muscular tail is nearly as long as the body and essentially acts as a fifth limb.

Keeper POV: Fiona! Fiona has raised awareness and interest in hippos. She’s an ambassador for her species! Interest in the Nile hippo and protecting its habitat in Africa benefits all species, many critically endangered, that share their ecosystem. Even Fiona swims in 100% recycled rainwater! It’s Zoo Babies month at the Cincinnati Zoo
It’s Zoo Babies month at the Cincinnati Zoo! Meet Daisy: the 7 month old bonobo! Bonobos, once called pygmy chimps, are the smallest of the great ape species. They share 98.7% of our DNA. Unlike gorillas or chimpanzees, bonobos are a matriarchal society. They are female lead, and female bonds take priority over male bonds. The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is proud to support Lola Ya Bonobo, the world's only bonobo sanctuary, in their efforts to rehabilitate orphaned bonobos, and reintroduce them into protected areas in the wild. Lola Ya Bonobo also helps communities coexist with bonobos by building a better future through conservation and sustainable livelihoods, rather than over hunting. @lolayabonobo @generalelectriccreditunion #cincinnati #animal #babyanimals #bonobo #cincinnatizoo

Many of you may be familiar with Kris the cheetah being a star in our Cat Ambassador Program
Many of you may be familiar with Kris the cheetah being a star in our Cat Ambassador Program. She is well known for her incredible running speeds and her relationship with her companion dog, Remus. A week ago during her routine cheetah run in our encounter mid sprint Kris unexpectedly fell. It was shocking to all in attendance, her trainers included. She was quickly attended to by our vet team and transported to MedVet for an MRI. It was found that she had a partially ruptured intervertebral disc, and her spinal cord sustained some trauma. This caused her to lose mobility in her back legs in an instance during that run. When we first brought her back to the zoo she did not have any movement of her back legs or tail for the first few days. Over the past week we have seen some incredible improvement. Learn more about her recovery on our website (link in bio).
