Make Your Voice Heard 📢 Demand Congress to Say NO to New Offshore Drilling
Make Your Voice Heard 📢 Demand Congress to Say NO to New Offshore Drilling! Offshore drilling is a dirty and dangerous practice, causing grave environmental impacts through every phase of the process. On top of that, the U.S. has been a net oil exporter since 2020 and new oil drilling is not needed to ensure our nation’s energy supply. Unfortunately, Congress is considering a massive offshore drilling proposal in the budget reconciliation bill that would expand drilling across millions of acres of ocean. This is a critical moment to protect our ocean and coasts across the U.S. 📝 Take action today and urge Congress to protect all U.S. waters from offshore drilling. The countdown is on
The countdown is on! 🎉 Our ninth annual Coastal Recreation Hill Day is one week away! Over 170 Surfrider activists from chapters and student clubs across 27 states and territories will meet with our elected representatives in Congress to urge them to protect our ocean and coasts. Our 2025 federal priorities will focus on protecting clean water and public health on our beaches, preventing new offshore oil drilling, and ensuring healthy communities and economies in the coastal zone. Our goal is to elevate the voice of the coastal recreation community and inspire stronger federal leadership on these critical issues. 🙌 Link in bio to learn more and take action today. #SurfriderHillDay

Coastal Stewardship and Restoration at Trestles 🌊💪 Over the past four months, hundreds of Surfrider volunteers participated in beach and habitat cleanups at Trestles. Together, we made a significant impact by removing 5,000 pounds of invasive iceplant and 400 pounds of trash! Removing invasive iceplant creates space for native coastal plants to return and thrive, which helps restore vital habitat that supports wildlife, and enhances this coastline’s resilience to extreme weather and rising seas. We are extremely grateful to our restoration partners, California State Parks (@castateparksoc) and the San Onofre Parks Foundation (@sanonofreparksfoundation), and to all of the incredible volunteers who joined us this season! Why does NOAA matter
Why does NOAA matter? 🌊 From weather forecasting to ocean and coastal protections, Americans rely on @NOAA’s vital services every day to help us plan for natural disasters, reduce the impacts of pollution, and protect marine wildlife. But right now, NOAA is under threat with plans from the White House to dismantle critical programs that safeguard our coasts, ocean, and Great Lakes. The Surfrider Foundation and coastal advocates across the country are speaking out to defend this essential agency. The ocean is our planet’s lifeline, and the fight to protect it has never been more urgent
The ocean is our planet’s lifeline, and the fight to protect it has never been more urgent.  Did you know the ocean is responsible for: 🌡️ Regulating global temperatures by absorbing heat and distributing it via ocean currents 🌱 Producing over 50% of our oxygen 🌍 Absorbing about a quarter of human-made CO₂, helping to slow climate change 🐠 Hosting coral reefs which cover less than 1% of the ocean floor but support 25% of all marine life But climate change is pushing our ocean to the brink—with rising temperatures, extreme weather, and acidification threatening marine life, coastal communities, and global food security. We need to act now. Join us in the work to protect our ocean and slow the effects of climate change. Take action today, link in bio.  📸 @morganmaassen #protectourwinters

The Surfrider Foundation is deeply alarmed by the Trump administration’s recent actions to weaken marine national monuments
The Surfrider Foundation is deeply alarmed by the Trump administration’s recent actions to weaken marine national monuments. This includes our strong opposition to opening monuments to industrial activities like oil and gas development and overfishing. Our national monuments were created by Presidents from both major political parties to protect extraordinary and unparalleled public lands and waters. Protection of monuments provides public use and enjoyment within and outside of monument boundaries, especially for recreational purposes. Finally, monuments provide continued economic benefits to local states, tribes, and communities through tourism, recreation, and sustainable fisheries. The Surfrider Foundation calls on the Trump administration and Congress to protect our national monuments and other federal conservation areas from weakened regulations and reduced funding. Please support Surfrider and our work to defend our ocean ecosystems by making a donation today.
