Mosaic is known for their stunning paint work. They have a way of delivering a rider’s wishes of pop and color while maintaining strong brand recognition. From ten feet out, you know a Mosaic when you see it. Many of the Mosaic builds we have done over the years began with a conversation about the Mosaic aesthetic. The Mosaic Artist Series allows the crew at Mosaic to flex their creative muscles with an annual paint scheme that remains recognizable yet makes each piece essentially a 1 of 1. Nebula is Artist Series number seven; this specific colorway is called Chromaflux. The patchwork of colors bring a vibrant and yet soft display of interlacing blues, whites, oranges and pinks. We recognize the Artist Series bikes are typically bold, and most of our clients seek out timeless, subtle paint options, but it is easy to become lost in the Nebula scheme. Chromaflux morphs in both color and shape, emphasizing while simultaneously erasing defining lines of the frame’s round tubes. The paint process is controlled, yet flexible as the paint moves and finds its own way across the surface. The dark components of the build provide an anchor and an edge to paint’s movement keeping your eyes from overwhelm. We have been fortunate to have worked with clients for each of the Artist Series editions and seeing them in person is incredible. It’s a pretty well known fact that @chriskingbuzz have been making the best headsets for a very long time. Personally I’ve had them on my bikes for more than 25 years with zero issues, which is incredible. One HUGE reason these headsets are so damn good is because of their patented GripLock system, which I’m guessing everyone’s seen engraved onto these beautiful headsets, but don’t know what that actually means. #Griplock uses an isolated wedge system to separate headset bearing adjustment from steerer tube location, eliminating loose headsets. In a standard headset system, their wedge is effected by each impact that runs through the steer tube, making the headset more likely to come loose. And nobody likes a loose headsets… Anyways, just a bit of #wednesdaywisdom on why you never have a loose headset if you’re already running the King or why your other headsets are potentially coming out of adjustment of time. 👊 #headsets

For some riders, custom is the best option. Sizing limitations can be overcome, future fit considerations can be incorporated and specific component preferences can be implemented. In the case of our most recent Mosaic GT-1 iAR, sizing was at the heart of the design. Simply put, a stock geometry wouldn’t work. Next was tailoring the bike to match the rider’s intended use - a bike specific for shoulder season riding that’s trail capable and road bike-like in performance. The AR platform from Mosaic with its 38mm max tire clearance matches this request perfectly. Drivetrain selection mimics the rider’s road bike with a 2x chainring configuration, road sized rings and a road width crankset. Perfect for a seamless switch from road bike to gravel bike. The paint choice had a slight “send it” approach and turns out to be an exceptional choice. The Matte, Pearl Mustard is both subtle and wild in equal measure. The Chris King components check list is long with Aeroset 3 headset, seat post collar, ceramic TF24 bottom bracket and GRD23 wheel set, all in matte black, to both match and contrast the frame color. #velosmithbuilds #mosaiccycles #chriskingbuzz

Last but definitely not least our Pistil Soft-tail which is the 3rd bike we showcased at the @seaotterclassic! The Pistil ST was recently added to our catalog in the Fall of 2024, debuting at the MADE show. It is aimed to be an XC bike with comfort and long days in the saddle in mind. The pivot-less rear triangle uses a 6/4 water-jet cut titanium plate to flex through the suspension travel. Carbon links provide smooth, laterally-stiff, predictable, shock stroke. The Pistil ST is full custom geometry and each one incorporates pre-load into the flex plate base the riders weight. Actual rear travel is around 75mm based on rider preference. From the beginning, the vision of Velosmith was to outfit riders with better bikes. Bikes that better fit the rider’s intended use, better matched their fitting requirements and range of motion and kept an eye for the future. The bikes would be better made - also with an eye to the future. Bikes that were reliable, serviceable and timeless. We would gauge our success in this area by how long our clients would keep these bikes. Jokingly, we would say this is the last bike you’ll need, but probably not the last bike you’ll want. This Seven build is special for us at Velosmith because it picks up daily riding duties for a Seven we built our client in 2011. In fact, that 2011 Seven build was the first Seven we ever sold! 13 years of regular miles, adventures, laughs, coffee stops and organized riding events, near and far. We are thrilled to build this new Seven and incorporate the changes 13 years bring to both rider and bicycle technology. This Seven is designed to be both road and light gravel capable, two wheelsets allow for day-of decision making regarding routes and scenery. The geometry lends a bit more stability when compared to the first Seven build. That stability is welcomed on the trails and the road. The rider position sees a small decrease in saddle/bar height differential (common for aging, yet active and consistent riders). Electronic shifting is a huge change and one of the most standout elements. That and the lower tire pressure/increased ride comfort. Last spring when we delivered this Seven, it was truly a moment for us to take it all in. How far we have come in 13 years. The industry, the products, the technology and cycling as a whole has evolved greatly but seeing the excitement on a client’s face on new bike day remains.
