Happy World Elephant Day! 🐘 The Cincinnati Zoo is committed to helping to save the world’s largest land mammals and their habitats by partnering with Conservation Initiatives in India & Bring the Elephant Home in Thailand. DYK: There are <50k Asian elephants in the wild. Populations are declining due to habitat loss & fragmentation, human–elephant conflict & poaching. The Zoo is also playing a leadership role in developing and implementing the AZA SAFE Asian Elephant program. This project is a conservation initiative between associated AZA facilities and partner organizations to ensure the Asian elephant’s survival as a species.
