Carolina K was born 20 years ago. In the first 12 years, every piece was entirely handmade with & by artisans. I chose to do this shoot here in Peru because it’s where part of the handmade story of Carolina K began. I lived in Peru in 2005, where I started to build relationships with different artisans across the country, some of who I kept in touch with up to this day. I traveled to Cuzco, Puno, Ayacucho, and many other different communities, learning, sharing, and collaborating. But even before that, the journey started in the north of Argentina and Bolivia — where my dad grew up and my grandparents settled for several years. To do this shoot, we came back to Pisac, a place I treasure deeply. In 2011, I lived in this town with my whole family here, including my children who went to school there. We had so many adventures, and it truly was a magical year. So much of the brand’s DNA, its spirit, values, and aesthetics was shaped here over the past two decades.
