FUN FACT: On the night Brett and I got engaged (in the same two seats where we met at Bemelmans) we checked into the Carlyle at the exact moment Elaine Stritch was collecting her mail from the front desk. She lived in the hotel for over a decade. In classic Elaine style, she wore a long button down with no pants—just as she’s doing in this picture on the right. And she was a delight!
