A USEFUL WAY TO KEEP TRACK OF WHAT YOU PAY ATTENTION TO⁠ ⁠ Commonplace journaling is a very old journaling practice used by writers, such as Virginia Woolf, to keep track of:⁠ ⁠ - What they’ve read⁠ - What they think about what they read; and⁠ - Memorable quotes from books they’ve read⁠ ⁠ Books aren’t the only thing we pay our attention to these days (and we really do mean pay. Mind how you spend your attention!) We get distracted by slime TikToks, Discord notifications, Tumblr fanfiction, etc. ⁠ ⁠ And that’s normal.⁠ ⁠ In a world of distractions, we can’t help but get distracted. What we can do, however, is redirect our attention. ⁠ ⁠ Next time you find yourself distracted, ask:⁠ ⁠ - Why is this so fascinating to me?⁠ - What about this is capturing my attention?⁠ - Is there something similar to this that is more productive? Can I direct my attention to that instead?⁠ ⁠ Maybe instead of meaningless distraction, you might find it helpful to:⁠ ⁠ - Write notes in your Bujo about an interesting YouTube video essay⁠ - Note down quotes from that fanfic you’re reading. What does it make you feel? Why does it resonate with you?⁠ - Keep track of smart things your friends say! Wisdom comes from everywhere. Those Discord notifications?
