#DanceWithPride 🌈 Giselle Remix 🩰 Throughout the month of June, we’re speaking to some of our dance community to highlight some incredible LGBTQ+ dancers, events, performances, and initiatives within the industry. "Giselle Remix, a project that began in late 2021, is a queer reimagining of the classical ballet Giselle, combining choreography by an elite soloist with the spirit of cabaret, drag, lip-syncing, and fringe theatre. It merges the highbrow tradition of ballet with the energy and accessibility of queer nightlife. We chose Giselle over works like Romeo and Juliet or Dante because its themes—heartbreak, projection, disillusionment, and resilience—are timeless and universal. These emotional truths resonate deeply across identities and histories, particularly within the queer community. Classical ballet is a rigidly gendered institution, often excluding those who exist outside the traditional binary. Giselle Remix creates space for queer and trans dancers—who are highly trained but often marginalized within the institutions they trained for—to perform a version of Giselle that reflects their own identities and experiences." -Jack Sears.
