Sometimes inspiration strikes in the most unexpected ways and this was one of those times. I had been experimenting in the studio, trying new textures and finishes, when I found myself completely drawn to the raw geometric beauty of pyrite. I knew I had to find a way to incorporate it into my work. This piece came out of that moment. I hand gold foiled each little cube to mimic the crystalline structure of pyrite and it instantly added a sense of richness and structure. It was a bit of a shift from my usual style but creatively it cracked something open. Now I can’t stop thinking about the idea of taking this further. A larger scale piece built around these hand crafted gilded blocks is definitely on my mind.
